Part 2: The Full Story
The boarding was swift and surgical. Men in tailored suits and naval officers flooded the deck. Leading them was Arthur Henderson, my legal director.

Richard surged forward, his face flushed with rage. “Get off my boat! This is private property!”

Henderson ignored him, walking straight toward me. He bowed his head in a gesture of profound respect. “Madam Chair,” he said, his voice rising above the wind. “The seizure papers are ready for your signature.”

There was absolute silence.

“Presidente?” Victoria yelled. “She’s a barista! She runs a coffee shop!”

“Ms. Vance,” Henderson enunciated, “is the majority shareholder of Sovereign Trust—the bank that holds the mortgage on this yacht, your Hamptons estate, and your bankrupt manufacturing plants. Which you haven’t paid for in three months.”

I stepped forward, past the spot where Victoria had tried to push me. I signed the heavy, cream-colored documents with a gold fountain pen, right there on the table next to Liam’s beer.

“Captain,” I said to the officer, “remove these intruders from my ship.”

Liam finally found his voice. He stepped toward me with a charming, manipulative smile. “Baby… that was incredible! You really showed them. We can run this empire together. Just think of what we could accomplish!”

I looked at the man who had watched me nearly drown while worrying about the boat’s upholstery. “There is no ‘us,’ Liam. You watched them push me and you just put on your sunglasses. You backed the wrong horse.”

The officers grabbed his arms. He didn’t fight; he let himself be led away, shouting my name as they dragged him toward the police boat. “Elena! You can’t leave me with nothing!”

“You already have nothing, Liam,” I replied. “Your inheritance is zero.”

As the police boat sped away with the tearful remnants of the family, I turned to the captain.

“Heading for the open sea,” I said, breathing in the salty air. “It smells of cheap gin and arrogance in here. I need to clear the air.”
